Recruiter

Job Description

Like I mentioned earlier, there's not a set routine to my job. The bulk of my day consists of driving out to meet prospective clients, attending dinners and recruiting events, making calls and calling into meetings. I do a little bit of reporting (more like log keeping) of all the people I speak to, and how successful each conversation went. My job is a lot about networking: who you know, who you meet, and who you try to meet.

Pros

I get to talk to so many different people throughout my day. I love that because I was always a really sociable person who couldn't be confined to a cube with no human interaction. The managers I help support are all so understanding and encouraging. I get to network with people across the nation. I get to attend tons of events held in the brokerage world. I'm also compensated partially by commission, which means I get to reep the benefits of my own work.

Cons

Because I am a "recruiter", my day can involve a lot of cold calling. You have to learn to take rejection (because there is a LOT of it). Sometimes I feel as if my resources are too limited. It also gets really tiring because I travel so much and have to attend so many events. It's not like I have to just show up, but I have to show up with a smile on my face and have to be ready to have good conversations with everyone. First impressions count for a lot in my field of work. The other downside is that my days and hours are iffy. Sometimes I'm required to work weekends. Sometimes I'm working 12-15 hour days. Sometimes I work 4 hour days. Because it's all so erratic, it makes spending time with my kids a little difficult.
